The way of the LORD is a stronghold to the blameless, but destruction to evildoers.
Proverbs 10:29 (ESV)
Have you ever had one of those experience where you just seemed to arrive somewhere at the perfect time? This morning I walked into my favorite Caribou and there was no one in the whole place. So I walked up and placed my order, picked up my hazelnut cream coffee and sat down before a wave of people descended on the place. I have a seat behind a little stub wall, where I can work in peace amidst the now growing crowd of people. Feeling blessed!
This mornings Proverb speaks of a stronghold which is a good place to be in the raging battle, and these days it so often feels like I am in the midst of a raging battle. The problem with a strong hold in a battle is if you find yourself on the outside, trying to get in. If it is a true strong hold, and the battle is on, then they tend to not want to open the front door to let you walk in. Yet in this proverb the blameless gain entry to the stronghold but who is blameless?
For who is God, but the LORD? And who is a rock, except our God?- the God who equipped me with strength and made my way blameless.
Psalm 18:31-32 (ESV)
The only one who can be found blameless is the one who God has made blameless, the one whom God has forgiven and redeemed. This is the blessing of my Baptism, I am declared blameless by Christ. But I still need to find a way into the strong hold in the middle of battle. This is where I believe Star Trek meets Proverbs. In Star Trek there is this great technology called “transport” where I can simply be “beamed” from one place to the next. God, in the middle of the raging battle around me has provided a way in for me, not by my doing, but all by his. God beams us to safety by His word. Ok the Star Trek connection might be lose but, even a nerd has to preach. I pray that today you find yourself transported by His the promises found in His Word to the safety of his Stronghold.
