The weekend was a beautiful weekend. Spring decided to show up, I ticked off several projects on my to-do list, and had wonderful worship and Bible Study on Sunday.  Had great conversation with my two adult sons, who continue to make me proud to be their dad. We know what that’s like, life is going well, we seem to have found our way…. Then all of the sudden something changes.

In an instant, from a single phone call, a personal conversation, or unforeseen event our world turns upside down. Even though the sun is shining we feel and see the darkness. Sometimes even though sun does try to cheer us, we might cry out like the great prophet of old;

Habakkuk 3:2 NIV
Lord, I have heard of your fame; I stand in awe of your deeds, Lord. Repeat them in our day, in our time make them known; in wrath remember mercy.

We have heard what He can do, we have read abut His fame. His Word speaks of miracles and healings of hope and promise. But what happened? Why does it seem He has left us, why did He not intervene?

Or did He?

Galatians 4:4-5 NIV
But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship.

Colossians 1:15-20
He (Jesus) is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.

He has acted in a might way. He does come with hope and promise. There is no miracle or act of God as powerful and reveling of who he is that the sacrifice of Jesus, God’s one and only son, to death on a cross, and raising Him to life that I might live! He has given us a miracle of Sonship through the Blood of Jesus. Holding our salvation, clinging to the adoption we have received, and remembering what awaits us for eternity, we can also say with the prophet:

Habakkuk 3:17-18 NIV
Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Savior.

Though I have lost my health, though my loved one is in trouble, though my job is over, though…. Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Savior.

Habakkuk ends his great prayer with these words of hope and certainty;

Habakkuk 3:19 NIV
The Sovereign Lord is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to tread on the heights.

Even when the tables turn Lord, help us to hold fast to whose we are, trusting that this is no obstacle to your power or grace.
