All is wellYesterday I broke a filling on the way home from work eating an apple. (which apparently does not keep the dentist away.) This morning I awoke to news of the terrible Pakistani Taliban attack on a crowed school in Peshawar that killed 145 people.  One hundred thirty four of the dead were uniformed school children.  Many more were injured and hospitalized.

Tonight I learned of the man sought in connection with the murder of six of his family members in Pennsylvania  was found dead from self inflicted wounds.

In the past month I have mourned the passing of my wife’s brother Ron.  It is her third brother to die way to soon, along with one brother-in-law.  Just a week ago my brother learned of the passing of his father-in-law Joe. This was followed just days later with the death of my mom.

Is all well?

Yes! All is well.  This does not mean there is not sadness, and grief or that all war has come to an end.  All is Well means we live as people of Hope.  People of promise trusting in the words of the angels;

 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.  This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”  Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,  “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests.”
Luke 2:11-14 (NIV)

Just what I needed – a savior!  In this holy season may we know the joy of a baby, born among the animals and placed in a manger.  May we hold to the promise of Isaiah when he said;

 Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Emmanuel.
Isaiah 7:14 (NIV)

Emmanuel – God WITH us.  With us through our shock, through our struggles, through our sorrows.  This Emmanuel allows me to join in my 2014 favorite Christmas Song All is Well.

In a piece of God orchestrated perfect timing, I was able just hours after my mom’s passing to hear Michael W. Smith sing this song Live in Concert with tickets we purchased many weeks ago.  yea – All is Well!
