This fall both FOX and CBS have plunged themselves into the darkness once again.  FOX new series Lucifer starting tonight.  Here is what they have to say about the series:

Based upon the characters created by Neil Gaiman, Sam Kieth and Mike Dringenberg for DC Entertainment’s Vertigo imprint, LUCIFER is the story of the original fallen angel. Bored and unhappy as the Lord of Hell, LUCIFER MORNINGSTAR (Tom Ellis, “Merlin”) has abandoned his throne and retired to L.A., where he owns Lux, an upscale nightclub.  (Fox.com)

WOW where do I begin – First I hate to argue with Fox, but Lucifer was not a character created by anyone from DC comics. This is the first of many issues with this program.  Once again the media is working hard to make myths out of the powerful truth of God’s Word.  To make Satan out to be nothing more than a DC comic character come to life in a TV show is nothing short of mocking God.

The second TV series this winter to merit throwing canned fruit at our TV is a show called “Angel From Hell” on CBS.  From the opening moments of the show it is clear that it is not a family friendly show, and one that clearly is making fun of God and his care for his people.  The premise of the show is that Amy is a “guardian angel” sent to watch over and protect Allison who is a single Doctor. Amy announces in the opening moments of the show that “She never siad the show would be G rated” after she swears at a man as she performs magic for some children.  She then proceeds to produce a flask of  booze that she had hid in a little boys hoodie.  Drinking is a big part of Amy’s character.

So how do we respond to this?

I think our response it quite simple.  We choose to not watch these programs, and we choose to let others know why. I am not calling for a boycott of CBS or FOX, at least not yet. But we need to keep ourselves away from this programing, and out family.  We need to be aware of just how subtle and powerful the lies beneath each of these programs are. They are the same lies we see, and should avoid, in so much of today’s entertainment media where casual sex never has consequences, where God’s name is flipped about without regard.

These are conversations we need to be having in our family, with our youth groups, from the pulpit.  We are to become vocally militant and take a stand for what we know to be true and right.  This is also a wake up call for us to encourage and support Christian media such as the new steaming content from PureFlix , or Christian Media producers like my friends at ii films.
