Our God is not limited by power.
There are many, even in the church today, that feel as if God has lost His touch. They feel like His power is faded and the once all creating God now just sits back and watches. The Scriptures paint a much different picture of God. In the old testament He is called ‘El Shaddai” which means God Almighty.
Jeremiah speaks of His power and might with these words;
12 But God made the earth by his power; he founded the world by his wisdom and stretched out the heavens by his understanding. 13 When he thunders, the waters in the heavens roar; he makes clouds rise from the ends of the earth. He sends lightning with the rain and brings out the wind from his storehouses.
Jeremiah 10:12-13
At the questioning of the disciples over who can be saved. (Matt. 19:16-26) he replies to the disciples;
26 Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
Matthew 19:26
Jesus demonstrates time and time again His amazing power over sickness, demon’s, nature, and even over death itself. From our perspective we can never accomplish enough to be made right with God. The power of God is demonstrated in the fact that the work has been done for us in the sacrificial death and resurrection of Christ.
While confirmation students through the ages have asked the great theological question, “Can God make a rock so heavy He cannot lift it?” They feel like they have you trapped. If you answer no, then they declare that he is not all mighty. If you answer yes, then they declare that he is not all mighty. The great answer is “Why would He want to?” God cannot do anything contrary to who He is. I rejoice in that fact for it gives great certainty that all His promises are true.
Because our God is not limited by power we can trust in His intervention in our lives.
This limitless power is described by God’s omnipotent attribute. His all powerful nature.
