Yesterday I was listening to my ipod on the way home from work and I had it set on “shuffle play.” This gave me a good mix of my music as I traveled. About half way home I came upon a song that caught my ear. I will not share the title of the song with but I will tell you that other than the words of the title, the song had very few lyrics. The title of the song was repeated for what seemed like a hundred time, one right after another, after another, after another, after another, after another. Get the point.
Some contemporary Christian artists have confused the title of a popular praise song “I Could Sing of Your Love Forever” with the phrase “I Should Sing of Your Love Forever.” Now don’t get me wrong I think our life should “sing” the praise of our God. But not always with just words, and especially the same words.
I think that sometimes we tend to live our life like this also. We glory in something wonderful that God has done for us and then we spend the next year basking in the glow, singing the same chorus, all the while we remain where we are, un moved and un challenged. I know that God tells us to remember the things that he has done, much of the old testament is a constant retelling of the story of God. But I also know that God does not want us to just hang out. He constantly calls us to new adventures, discoveries, and missions.
Psalm 25:4-5 (NIV)
4 Show me your ways, O Lord, teach me your paths;5 guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.
The Bible is full of references to following after Christ, walking the path, God as our guide. Movement, God calls us to be people on the move. Remembering, and celebrating what he has done while we move on the next big adventure, the next stanza of our “song.”
My prayer is that we would “Sing of Christ’s Love Forever…” with ever changing verses added as we live and move through life with Him.
