Black Friday and Cyber Monday have come and gone, but that does not mean that our obsession with gift buying is over. As a culture, the giving of gifts, and the expectations of gifts for Christmas are out of control. Scripture reminds us when it comes to gifts, God is the giver of all good gifts.
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. James 1:17
But what makes a gift “perfect?” The answer has nothing to do with the size, color, model number or the amount of memory the gift comes with. A perfect gift is a gift from a perfect gift giver who gives us what we need when we need it to serve others. Oh, yea, gifts are never for us, they are given to use to be used in service and love for others. So this Advent lets spend as much time thinking about the gifts we already have, and how we can best use them as we do thinking about the gifts we need to pick up or add to our Amazon shopping list.
